We took a trip to the Austin Aquarium today to look at some fish that I don't have to care for, for a change! They pack a lot into a a small space and encouraged interactivity.
For fresh water, they had a tank with some massive black pacu and a huge red tail catfish who gave us a smile. They also had a nice, tannin rich tank with a gorgeous plecostomus.
They had multiple small saltwater exhibits with an amazing array of invertebrates.
Their saltwater fish were a glory to behold, as well!
They had three, large interactive tanks that were open-top for people to feed the animals. One was a shark tank, another a koi tank, and the last a ray and skate tank. One of the rays even blew bubbles at me begging for food!
There was also an impressive collection of reptiles from caimans to tegu.
Lastly, they had a number of beautiful birds on exhibit, including a parakeet enclosure!
Make the time to get over to the Austin Aquarium. It's quite the experience.
